Happy November 1st! The arrival of November brings the holiday season and colder weather. As far as fashion goes, it’s time to open up the coat closet. We’re not quite into coat weather yet, but the fashion world is always one step ahead. Plus, we all know how unpredictable Texas weather can be.

Lately it has been especially hard to dress myself for the day. I have all 9 AM classes this semester, so it’s chilly when I leave for class in the morning, but whenever I get out in the afternoon… not so much. Then when the sun goes down, it gets cold all over again. As all Texans know, the only way to combat this is dressing in layers.

Dressing in layers typically entails multiple lighter layers to take off throughout the day. Personally, I am getting really tired of this. Layering is all well and good, but when it becomes an every day thing, carrying around half your closet on your arm gets old. So, for this outfit I decided to take a different approach to mix things up.

Instead of having lots of light layers, I opted for just one heavier layer perfect for a chilly morning or cool evening. Underneath I went with a lightweight short sleeve top paired with a leather mini skirt. Since my arms and legs were exposed, my coat didn’t make me hot. For a warmer afternoon, this coat could be removed and this outfit would still be fall appropriate because of the leather skirt and bootiesall without the fuss of multiple layers.

For all of you ladies dying to wear your coats, this is a great way to incorporate them into your wardrobe early in the season. These exact items I’m wearing are unfortunately no longer available, but I’ve linked up some similar stuff down below. I love anything leopard/cheetah print for a fun accent, but this look can easily be recreated with just about any coat. All you need are some fall appropriate bottoms and a pair of booties or riding boots. Sometimes less really is better!
