Today’s Fitness Friday post is… comin’ at y’all on a Saturday. This week’s post is dedicated to all things CBD, so 1. I really wanted to take my time on this post to give y’all plenty of info 2. today is 4/20 (LOL) so it just seemed like the perfect day to share. CBD has really taken off lately, and being someone who prefers to keep things natural when possible, I was intrigued. I personally struggle with anxiety and stress on a regular basis so when I heard CBD could help alleviate those things, I decided to give it a try. It also has recovery benefits and since I’m generally hitting the gym 5-6 days a week I figured that couldn’t hurt either!
But what the heck is CBD? I’ll admit, when I first started hearing about it I was somewhat skeptical. And to be honest… when I saw that it came from cannabis that scared me a little! First of all marijuana is illegal in most places, plus I’ve never been too into partying of any kind, especially not smoking – I’m already naturally a tired and hungry person haha so it has just never sounded very appealing to me. So first things first, let’s clear that up; CBD does not get you high!
Technically CBD and marijuana both come from the same plant species, but *legal* CBD is made from hemp. Hemp contains low levels of the compound THC which is what does get you high. Small amounts such as what is found in CBD (as long as it is extracted from hemp) is legal in all 50 states! Pure Kana products for example, only contains 0.02%… so basically nothing. While their website says it might not be the best idea to use CBD products prior to a drug test (better safe than sorry), you are getting such a small amount that, again, will not affect you the same way smoking marijuana does.
