Let’s talk summer makeup! During this time of year makeup can be tricky. You need products that can withstand the heat, but you don’t wanna overdo it and wind up looking cakey. I tend to go for a more natural look for everyday makeup anyway, but especially during the summer months. I have all of my go-to products linked by category for you guys down below with a step-by-step guide to get my everyday warm weather makeup look! For video tutorials, be sure to check out my YouTube channel.
Face:
My all time favorite foundation duo is the YSL CC Cream Lavender Color Correcting Primer and the YSL Radiance Awakening foundation. I’ve tried a lot of different foundations and primers over the years, but this pair takes the cake. The Radiance Awakening foundation is full coverage, lasts all day, and I actually like the way it feels on my skin. Plus both the primer and the foundation have SPF! I add a little concealer under my eyes, set it with this powder, lightly dust this powder foundation all over, and finish with bronzer.
Real talk: most of these items that I put on my face are a little on the pricey side. If you’re going to splurge on makeup, I definitely think splurging on a good foundation is the way to go. However, I have to say that I recently tried this Neutrogena foundation and primer and was really impressed with them both! The price point is great and the foundation has a nice lightweight formula that’s perfect for everyday use. I’ve been wearing it lately for lunches with friends and meetings! My recommendation is to purchase a high end foundation and a lower price point foundation or tinted moisturizer. You can use the less expensive one during the day or for casual affairs and save your nicer stuff for the evenings and special occasions to really make it last!
Cheeks:
During the summertime I tend to like to gravitate towards blushes that have a little glow to them. The NARS orgasm blush is always a go-to, but I’ve also been loving this Milani Rose Powder blush. I definitely don’t want to wear anything too bright because my skin is more prone to redness naturally in the heat. Both of these options give those cheeks beautiful, natural looking color without going overboard.
Even though both of my favorite blushes are more on the glowy side, I’ve still gotta have my highlight. I’ve been using this Chanel liquid highlighter for years and I honestly never use anything else. The color is gorgeous and a little goes a long way. I just get a small dab on my finger and blend it out on my cheekbones. It’s super quick and easy and really makes your makeup pop!
Eyes:
I used to be all about a dramatic smokey eye, but I’m just not that into it anymore. The older I get and the hotter it is outside, the less makeup I want to wear. As of now, my eye makeup routine consists of only 2 or 3 eyeshadow colors, winged liquid or gel liner, and mascara. I take a neutral brown from this palette and put it in my crease, blend it out, then add a little sparkle from this palette and call it a day! Additionally, I always fill in my brows using this pencil and this brow gel.
Lips:
My favorite lip colors to match a more natural makeup look are either a peachy pink or a more neutral mauve pink. I recently discovered the Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Sticks and I’m obsessed. They’re basically like a giant crayon for your lips, making application super quick and easy. They’re also very moisturizing and comfortable! Seriously, cannot say enough nice things about these bad boys.
Another go-to for me, especially during the summer, are liquid lipsticks because I know they’re going to stay. My favorites are the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolor, Super Stay Matte Ink from Maybelline, and NYX liquid suede. I always prime my lips first with MAC Prep ‘n Prime Lip followed by a matching lip liner for maximum staying power.
