Summer Essentials

Summer is here and the weather is heating up. I’ve put together some of my picks to keep you cool, but looking hot!

Here are my top 10 summer essentials:

Nothing says summer like a good ole pair of cutoffs. They’re just a classic. Throw them over your swimsuit, or pair them with a cute crop top for a night out on the town. There’s a lot of variety in cut and color, so there’s something for everyone. Plus, you don’t have to spend a bunch of money to find the perfect pair. Some of the best looking cutoffs I’ve seen have come from thrift stores. You can even make your own!

If cutoffs aren’t your style, printed shorts are a fun and colorful alternative. Personally, I love a good floral print, but there’s all kinds. The good thing about printed shorts is since there are lots of different colors in the patterns, you can mix and match for multiple outfit options.

Overalls just take me back to my childhood. I’m a complete 90s kid, what can I say? At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about them coming back into style, but I like them for summer. They’re easy and comfortable. Grab your favorite tank or tee and a pair of overalls, and you’ve got yourself a trendy outfit. Recently, I have also seen people use overalls as a swimsuit coverup. It’s a good way to get some coverage while still keeping cool.

Rompers and jumpsuits are perfect, easy outfits that can be transitioned from day to night. Plus, they just add some variety in a girl’s wardrobe. By day, pair them with a pair of flat sandals. By night, slip on some wedges and some nice jewelry. For summer, look for rompers or jumpsuits made out of lightweight materials, bright colors, and fun prints.

Palazzo pants are another good comfy option for the summer time. Since they’re so loose, they’re really great for staying cool. Along with that, they’re flattering on pretty much any body type! Pair them with a simple crop top or tank, and you’re good to go. For shorter girls (such as  myself) palazzo pants work best with wedges or some other sort of heel.

One of my favorite options for summer are breezy dresses. There’s nothing more airy and comfortable on a hot day than a dress. Look for lightweight materials to keep cool. Keep things simple with a shorter shift dress with some sneakers or sandals, or kick it up a notch with a maxi dress and heels. The possibilities are endless!

Crop tops are totally in right now, and I’m loving it. They can be really casual or really chic. There are lots of different options out there to suit anyone’s personal style. Pair them with a higher waisted short or pant for an extra flattering look. Another chic option is getting a matched crop top and short set.

Casual sandals are simply a must during the summer time. Get a nice neutral pair and they’ll go with anything, or opt for something funky for a pop of color. Sandals are nice because you can just slip them on and go, plus they’re comfortable.

Sunglasses are an accessory that is both functional and fashionable. They’re great for all seasons, but especially during the summer months. It is just as important to protect your eyes from the sun as it is your skin.

Hats are another functional and fashionable accessory. The sun can do a lot of damage, and wearing a hat can help to protect your face. Besides that, they’re just cute and festive for summer. Although hats and sunglasses can help protect your eyes and skin, don’t forget the sunscreen! Even if you have a dark complexion, still put some on.
